Academic Interests

Dr. Mohammed A. Rafey is an American Board certified nephrologist and a Hypertension Specialist. He trained in Internal Medicine and Nephrology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York. In addition he also completed a 2 year fellowship in Hypertension at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York. He was recognized as Hypertension Specialist by American Society of Hypertension and was inducted as a Fellow by American Society of Hypertension in 2010. He also completed a Masters in Clinical Research from New York University in 2007. He has served as a full time faculty in Nephrology and Hypertension at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York and at Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland for several years. Before joining University of Chicago, he worked as a Senior Consultant in Nephrology and led the Hypertension Program at Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, India. He was a co-investigator on five major trials (AASK, AASK Cohort, CRIC and SPRINT) on kidney disease and hypertension conducted by National Institute of Health, USA and has published more than 40 original research papers and abstracts in peer-reviewed medical journals. He has also authored chapters on hypertension in leading text books of Internal Medicine, Hypertension, Cardiology and Nephrology.
