Faculty Profile

Wenndy Hernandez
Section of Cardiology
Instructor of Medicine

Academic Interests

Dr. Hernandez is committed to deciphering the molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular diseases using genetics, particularly those that disproportionally afflict under-represented minorities. Her current research integrates advanced quantitative and computational methods and tools that utilize large-scale data to determine the underlying molecular mechanisms of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke in African Americans. Her goal is to enhance the understanding of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke in African Americans and create a system of precision medicine by conducting multidisciplinary research - from the molecular to clinical levels - and in conjunction with leading cardiovascular and neurosurgeon physicians, translate research findings from the lab into a clinical setting. She believes that translational research that integrates population-specific genomic variation and complexity has tremendous potential to reduce health disparities and improve clinical practice.
