Academic Interests

Dr. Stankus is involved in human subject research specifically working on national and international multi-site randomized clinical trials in patients with chronic kidney disease and end stage renal disease. Dr. Stankus has been involved in studies of management of secondary hyperparathyroidism, vascular access complications, factors that improve vascular access outcomes; novel therapeutics for treatment of anemia in chronic kidney disease, and investigation of novel calcimimetic therapies. Dr. Stankus has fostered a special interest in geriatric nephrology with a focus on conservative and palliative care for elderly patients with end stage renal disease. She is a clinician –educator and leads the renal pathophysiology course for the second year medical students at Pritzker School of Medicine. Dr. Stankus is interested in developing physician leadership as one of the tools to improve outcomes in dialysis patients in collaboration with industry leadership and in promoting changes in current nephrology practice channeled towards optimized personalized care for patients with kidney disease.
 

Clinical Interests

Care of patients with end stage kidney disease on hemodialysis; geriatric nephrology and comprehensive conservative care in chronic kidney disease. .
