Academic Interests

Dr. Saygin is a physician scientist with a translational research laboratory focused on understanding leukemia biology and genetics, as well as developing novel therapies for these diseases. He studies the mechanisms by which leukemias arise from precursor conditions such as clonal hematopoiesis. This is done by working with primary cells from patient samples, and modeling these entities in research laboratory. Dr. Saygin was involved in preclinical development of several experimental therapeutics for treatment of ALL and AML. He also runs a Clonal Hematopoiesis Clinic, where he sees patients with high-risk preleukemic conditions and focuses on interventions that may halt the progression towards leukemia. Dr. Saygin is focused on the development and conduct of novel therapeutic trials for these diseases, both at the institutional and national level.
