Faculty Profile

Aarti Venkat
Section of Computational Biomedicine and Biomedical Data Science
Assistant Professor of Medicine
avenkat@bsd.uchicago.edu

Academic Interests

The goal of Dr. Venkat's research is to develop computational infrastructure and pipelines for large omics datasets to ultimately understand the genetic basis of diseases. She is particularly interested in studying fundamental problems in biology and disease with practical impact on healthcare. As an example, she has focused on oncology in recent years and developed clinical bioinformatics pipelines with actionable impact. Current projects and interests include development of the biomedical research hub -- a centralized data ecosystem for integrating and analyzing several omics datasets, veteran affairs precision oncology initiative, helping to end opioid addiction initiative, the application of AI and machine learning such as deep learning to health care. She is very interested in developing reproducible cloud-based bioinformatics workflows, including their optimizations and accelerations.
