Academic Interests

Dr. Chapman specializes in interventional gastroenterology procedures including novel endoscopic procedures for weight loss and bariatric surgery complications. Endoscopic bariatric therapies, performed entirely through a natural orifice, are completed as an adjunctive tool to enhance weight loss with lifestyle intervention. Current procedures include intragastric balloon placement, endoscopic suturing for sleeve gastroplasty creation and revision of surgical bypass, aspiration therapy as well as procedures for bariatric surgery complications including strictures, leaks and fistulas. In addition, he performs a wide range of invasive esophagus, stomach, colon, pancreas and bile duct procedures for the diagnosis, treatment, and palliation of gastrointestinal diseases including endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA)/cryotherapy. Dr. Chapman’s research interests include early gastrointestinal tumor diagnosis and interventional device and technique development for the treatment and palliation of obesity and advanced gastrointestinal cancers.
